Due to some progressive natural factors, the flamingo numbers have been reducing but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills and euphorbia trees dot the lake.
The few quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The drive to the Mara is via Kenya rural settings that contrast dramatically as you progress towards the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Most of the drive shall be at the floor of the Great Rift Valley and through Masai country. During the afternoon, explore the Masai Mara on your first game viewing drive of safari. We’ll arrive at the Mara with plenty of time for game drives today. This reserve is vast but supports an intense concentration of wildlife. You’re sure to see plenty of predators and grazers playing out their life cycles on a great savannah dotted with distinctive acacia trees. If you should be at the park during the time of the great migration (July – October) prepare to take in the greatest display of advancing animals – wildebeests and zebra – on the planet. The wildlife arrives in its yearly cycle, and their numbers are breathtaking. We’ll visit the Mara River at the point of this crossing, where crocodiles await and immense hippos forage. And, we’ll be tracking other wildlife over the immense plains of the park – lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, rhino and gazelle. We’re next off to Lake Nakuru but on the way, we’ll make stops to eat, stretch our legs and admire some of the more scenic spots we come upon. Early morning exit game viewing drives at Lake Nakuru as you exit the park. A long and easy drive to the Amboseli national park. We may even see views of Mt. Kilimanjaro’s peak – weather permitting. On the way to Amboseli, we’ll be passing the towering escarpments of the Rift Valley and make stops along the way to admire these imposing formations. Arriving at Amboseli in the afternoon, we’ll take a short game drive before dinner. Overnight Dinner and overnight stay at safari lodge or camp of your choice.
We’ll be looking for the many herds of large tusked elephants marching through the park returning from their watering holes. You’re sure to see the great mass of Mount Kilimanjaro rising to the south. This is also a good time of the day for the cloud cover to disperse revealing the mountain’s famous snow-capped peak. We’ll get up early for one last game drive. Besides the ever-present elephants, keep an eye out for zebra, buffalo and gazelle. It’s an early rise again, and hopefully, the clouds will break at the peak of Kilimanjaro, revealing its snowy crown. Dining at your camp or lodge before a delicious safari breakfast, you can take in the splendor of Africa’s largest peak overlooking the park. We’ll enjoy one final game drive in Amboseli again looking for the big game and the smaller forms of hyena, fox, monkey and baboon. The park is a virtual city of wildlife. But now we’re off, heading to the Kenya coast. Drop off On the way to Kenya coast beaches, we’ll make stops to rest, stretch and have lunch. As we heading to your resort or hotel, you’ll gaze at the passing countryside, with thoughts of the marvelous animal sightings.
