Itinerary

Your driver/guide will pick you up early from your Kenya coast beach resort or hotel in a 4 x 4 Jeep for your safari journey. We’ll head out on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway to Tsavo West. On the way, we’ll stop to have breakfast or refreshments. Safari We should arrive at Tsavo West by mid-morning and begin 3 days of game drives, looking for Africa’s Big Five, plus a variety of other animals like gerenuk, impala, and hartebeest. This large park is known for its share of lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, and others. Of special note is the rhino sanctuary here, created to protect these great but endangered creatures. We’ll visit and look for some of these fascinating and elusive beasts. Overnight Our first safari night will be at Tsavo West, at your choice of lodge or tented camp.

We’re on safari time now and that means rising with the dawn if not before, to appreciate the light breaking upon the fields and trees. This is a magical time when the animals first stir on the plain. We’ll join them on an early morning game drive to see who we can spot. Breakfast follows and then a special trip to the unexpected Mzima Springs. This lush garden spot stands in contrast to the drier terrain of the park. The palm-fringed springs are fed by thousands of gallons of fresh water, hosting hippos, crocodile and exotic fish. It’s also an oasis for the reserve’s thirsty animals drawn to this life-sustaining spring. Look for elephant, zebra, and other wildlife in this shaded glade. But now it’s time to head to Amboseli National Park where elephants’ rule. We should arrive late morning at the park, with time to enjoy lunch and freshen up from our drive. One of the reasons for Amboseli’s popularity is that it is one of the best spots in Africa for viewing free-ranging elephants. So many in fact, that sightings are guaranteed! You’ll see them marching before the majesty of Kilimanjaro, on their way to a watering hole, their young usually in tow. This is a wonderful time for picture-taking. Toward the evening the clouds that sometimes cover the mountain’s snowy peak, open up, revealing one of the wonders of Africa. Overnight Our second and final safari night will be at Amboseli at your choice of accommodation.

If we get up early, we may catch a clear view of Kilimanjaro’s snowy summit. And we will see the sunrise lighting up the fields and bush of Amboseli as the park comes to life. At breakfast, we’ll take in all this natural wonder that few have had the good fortune to witness. We’ll fit in an extra mid-morning game drive looking for any animals that have so far eluded our search. Check Amboseli’s plains for signs of cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, hyena, foxes, monkey and baboon. After lunch, as we depart the park, we’ll enjoy one final game drive before heading out on the highway to Nairobi. We should arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon. Drop off What a trek we just made across Kenya, from the coast to the capital, by way of two active national parks. We’ll drop you off at your hotel, residence or the airport.
